Perdew Elementary School

Justine Sterling

Welcome to my page! I am so happy you found our class website. My name is Justine Sterling and I am very excited to be your child's 1st grade teacher this year. First grade is an exciting, yet rigorous year full of growth. I could not be more thankful to have the opportunity to work with your child during this special time.

About Me:

My dream of being a teacher finally came true when I graduated from the University of California, Riverside with my degree in Liberal Studies and quickly followed by my Master's degree in education. As a first-generation college graduate, I truly value education and the opportunities I have been given because of it. More than just the standards, I look forward to teaching your child to LOVE school, even when it is tricky. Building relationships with my students and their families is the best part of my job and I can not wait to work in partnership with you this year. This is my 9th year teaching here at Perdew and I have taught grades K-2 so I know exactly where your kiddo is coming from and where they need to be by the end of the year!

My husband (Mr. Ozzy, as the kids call him) and I live in Redlands with our two fur babies- Porter & Kona. They are truly the loves of our lives and I love sharing stories and photos of them with my class. In my free time, I love to go to my favorite place- the beach...or my second favorite place- TARGET! I also practice yoga weekly and love to travel!

FAQ

When does school start and end?

  • We begin our day promptly in the classroom at 8:15 am. School ends T-F at 2:45 pm and Mondays are minimum days and we end at 1:15pm.

Where is pickup?

  • First grade dismissal is along the side parking lot.

  • Students also have the option of getting picked up at the back gate.

  • If you have multiple students you can have them all go to the same gate!

What classroom are you in?

  • F6- we are all the way in the back left of the school.

Do I need to pack a snack for my student each day?

  • Students do have time to enjoy a small healthy snack during recess time, but it is not mandatory that they have one. If you do send a snack with your student please make sure it is something they can open on their own. It may be helpful to label it with the word "snack" so students can tell the difference between that & their lunch.

What else does my child need to bring each day?

  • You may wish to send your student with a dry water bottle each day. Please make sure it is closed so that it doesn't spill in their bag! Students also must bring their black folders each day.

When is Library?

  • Our library time is on Wednesdays.

What is technology like in the classroom?

  • Technology is essential in our ever-changing society and students will get very familiar with Chromebooks this school year. We will use our Chromebooks almost daily so please make sure your child has some over-the-ear headphones!

How can we communicate throughout the year?

  • I truly believe that children benefit most when their parents and teachers collaborate together. That is why I am always willing to meet with you before or after school, through email, or through the Etiwanda app- Rooms!
