Classroom Information and Supply List

Here is some important information and a suggested supply list for the upcoming school year - please read:

Homework Packets

Homework packets are given on a weekly basis.  They are sent home on Mondays in students' homework folders and due back on Friday at the beginning of class.  The first page of every homework packet will include a cover sheet for parents to initial each activity their child completed.

1st trimester homework packets typically contain:

  • Name writing practice (daily)

  • Read the Phonics Take home book everyday to parents, grandparents, stuffed animal, etc. (daily)

  • Help your child memorize the weekly poem. (daily)

  • Read aloud to your child (everyday) and refer to the How to Conduct Literature Discussions page for ways to talk about the story. Please try to discuss a different section each night.

  • Phonics/ABC games (daily)

Please do not throw away the “Literature Discussion Page” or ABC Flashcard Games! Your child will use these all year.

Heart words

Sight words are called heart words because students need to know them “by heart.”

40 heart words are included in your homework folder.  Cut the words out and keep them in a safe place.

We will focus on one per week in class.

All 40 heart words need to be mastered by the end of the year.

Snack/Recess: We will have a morning and afternoon snack/recess. All of our hard work is sure to make the children hungry, please try to send a snack. Also, please send your kiddos with a water bottle (with some type of “pop up” top), especially on these warm days. Thank you

Classroom Management: One of my goals as a teacher is to create a positive learning environment where all students feel safe, confident, and are able to take risks. I try to make classroom expectations clear so all students are able to understand and be successful. We will work on classroom expectations together to include student ideas. To help students monitor their behavior I have a class clip system. My goal is to keep a positive engaging classroom where all students can achieve.

Volunteers:  I can’t wait to get more volunteers into the classroom and help with classroom preparations, we truly appreciate the support of our awesome parents! I will have more information in the coming weeks.

PE: Our class will go to PE on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please make sure they wear appropriate shoes and bring a water bottle with a “pop top” on hot days.
