What is Accelerated Reader?

"AR is a computer program that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at their own level and reads it at their own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) AR gives children, teachers, and librarians feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice"

AR "Session" and Rewards

During each "session" a student is given a goal to reach in AR points. Generally, each session the goal will move slightly higher to encourage more reading.

In order for your student to have met their A.R. Goal they must:

  • Be in the % of average correct:  80% or better

  • Meet their point goal 

  • Be reading primarily within their set ZPD

The 2024-2025 session dates, as well as the rewards for reaching goals are as follows:

You can follow your student's progress in AR by clicking on this link. The only information you will need is your child's log-in information, the same username, and password that they use to log into all school resources.
