Welcome to 6th grade at Etiwanda Intermediate!

My name is Jan Zimmermann and I teach Math and Science here at Etiwanda Intermediate. I received my Bachelors of Arts at Western Governor's University; recently acquired my GATE certification from University of California at San Diego; and, I am currently working on my Masters in Education.  I have been blessed to be part of the Etiwanda family as a teacher for the past 11 years; this will be my 10th year teaching sixth grade here at E.I.S. I love creating engaging learning environments and currently serve as one of our site's Kagan Coaches, which allows me to coach and mentor other teachers and their students.   My partner teacher, Gina Martin, will be instructing your child in English Language Arts and Social Studies.  We will collaborate to provide our students a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment.

In addition to being a Teacher, I am also a wife, and mother.  My husband, David, and I have been married since 1997 and are vested members in this community.  We have three grown children, all of whom have attended the Etiwanda School District.    My passions are: learning new things, cooking, Pilates, hiking and anything related to vintage VW Beetles!

I am looking forward to a very exciting and productive 2024-2025 school year!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe ALL students can learn and thrive.  I also strongly believe that at this stage of learning, the learning is a shared responsibility and a cooperative effort between parent, child, and teacher.  BEST growth occurs when we each embrace our responsibilities in this process. Through this cooperative learning strategy, successful lifelong educational habits are built.
