Character Education

Students in grades sixth through eighth will participate in the Character Strong program as part of the exploratory wheel. Teachers will use the approved curriculum and lessons to implement the program. Most lessons include the five main parts, which are: The Warm Welcome (an entry task), Community Building, Content with direct instruction, videos, and activities, The CharacterDare/To Be List process, and an Optimistic Closure. According to characterstrong.com,  “This curriculum was created to support school communities as they engage in the work of preparing young people to thrive in the 21st century. The research supports the effectiveness of this content to increase student’s academic success and college & career readiness. The lessons focus on developing skills and mindsets around building positive habits, understanding our emotions, improving teamwork, and increasing empathy.”

Each grade will have a primary theme for the year:

Sixth- Belonging

Seventh- Well-Being

Eighth- Engagement
