My name is Jonathan Edwards. I was raised in La Verne, Ca and received my B.A. from CSU San Bernardino. I earned my teaching credential at the University of La Verne, where I also received a Master's degree in education.
I have been teaching for 23 years and I have had experience both at the elementary and middle school levels. I have been in the Etiwanda School District for my entire career, and I am very proud to be at Heritage Int. I have been happily married for 30 years. I have an 24 year old son named Jared who is also a teacher and a 20 year old son named Cooper continuing college this fall. I also have two dogs named Brady and Bodie. My hobbies include pickleball, golfing, football, soccer, listening to music, and spending time with my family. I am a HUGE fan of the Chicago Bears, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Manchester United!

Financial Literacy (elective)
This course is designed to help students become financially educated, learn work-readiness skills, and to even become entrepreneurs. Students will view various PBS Biz Kid episodes on DVDs to learn about money and finances which includes: Taking Care of Your Financial Future, How to be a Smart Consumer, The Difference between Cash and Credit, and many more.
Course Description
This class will introduce students to the world of personal finance. Students will have the opportunity to learn about saving accounts, checking accounts, ATM cards, debit cards, and credit cards. The activities embedded in this course allow students to think about how their decisions will impact their financial future. Students will begin to understand how to pay bills, apply for loans, and make other financial decisions. Working in teams and interacting with their peers to resolve problems, critically think about money, make important financial decisions, and understand different responsibilities are key when completing tasks.
Weekly Plans:
Week 1: | Establishing cooperative groups-job skills. |
Week 2: | Understanding the banking world, such as balancing checkbooks, writing checks, and saving accounts. |
Week 3: | Paying Bills |
Week 4: | Car loans, paychecks, and reviewing vocabulary. |
Week 5: | Gross net pay, payroll taxes, salary jobs, and healthcare plans. |
Week 6: | Mortgage, 401(k), net worth, and assessment of students skills. |
Universal Access
Our primary focus will be to: (1) develop foundational skills in Math; (2) reinforce what is being taught in Math; (3) provide opportunities for extension and acceleration in Math. Also, o provide a protected, tiered instructional time for students to receive what they need academically to close gaps, provide practice or experience in depth learning.
This will be accomplished by implementing various district approved resources to supplement & support the student's individual learning needs.
