My name is La Wanda Simmons and I teach English Language Arts and Social Studies. I also specialize in working with students that need extra attention that may have learning disabilities as well as students that are Gate identified. I'm a veteran teacher dedicated to creating a wonderful class environment for my students this 2023-2024 year.

Exploratory Course

Conflict Resolution

What is conflict resolution- is the ability to understand and properly maneuver disagreements with others.

Students will focus on the following skills regarding Conflict Resolution in the classroom environment and curriculum.

  • Demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication

    skills.

  • Students will learn how to control an emotional situation

    by practicing using role play in class.

  • Students will learn how to "Walk It Out" which is one of the

    simplest strategies that help students remove themselves

    from a situation.

Universal Access

Our primary focus will be to reinforce what is being taught in Language Arts and provide opportunities to review and develop foundational reading skills that may have been missed.

This will be accomplished by using the district approved IXL Reading program and small group instruction.  Students will complete selected lessons independently to gain practice on foundational skills they need to become efficient and confident readers. Each week I will also provide small group instruction opportunities to reinforce and extend those same foundational skills.
