Hello and welcome to eighth grade Math and Science! I am excited to embark on this last year of middle school with your child. My goal is to create an environment for your child to grow. It will be a year filled with academic challenges- so that they continue to push themselves - and FUN! I will strive to help your child be successful, reach their potential and be prepared for high school.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I would also encourage your child to reach out to me anytime, so that I can help them. There are times I may miss something and them using their voice both empowers them and allows me to address their needs.

In regards to me, I have been in education for over 20 years. I hold a Multiple Subject and a Reading Credential. In my (limited) free time, I enjoy traveling, reading and photography. I love spending time with my family and learning new things...all the while sipping on a Starbucks ;)

Homework Assignments

Homework will be assigned daily. Students will be given time to write it down in their planners. Please encourage your child to write it down and check their planners regularly.

Steps to Complete Assignments:

  1. Check the Homework Link (below).

  2. Go directly to the resource(s)  indicated to access the assignments

    • Online resources in  Google Classroom or ConnectEd/Amplify will be labeled by date and/or name

    • Use your notes and/or books to assist for success.

    • Make sure to read all directions!

  3. After completing assignments, turn them in, On Google Classroom, in class, AND if directed, in ConnectEd/Amplify.

October: Friday the 13th and Friday the 27th

November: Friday the 17th (only 1 this month due to break/days off)

December: Friday the 8th and Thursday the 21st

January: Thursday the 25th (only 1 this month due to break/days off)

February: Friday the 9th and Friday the 23rd

.Late work will lose points according to the following procedures:

Work that is late will result in 10% penalty per day up to a maximum of 50% off. 

I will hold two late days (see listed dates) a month for students to stay after school  and get caught up. For all students, work assigned prior to the designated work day will NOT be  accepted beyond said date.

It is always the student’s responsibility to notify the teacher when they have completed late/absent work.

Character Strong

In this course, students will be introduced to a weekly topic utilizing the Character Strong Program. The general format for the week is:

  • Ethical Monday - students will discuss scenarios that require critical thinking skills, recognize potential options, understand consequences and make the best choices.

  • Character Tuesday - Students will watch movie clips that exemplify various character traits and then work through questions for meaningful class discussions.

  • Role Model Wednesday - Students will read about positive role models from all different segments of the population and backgrounds that will then lead to class discussion and a quiz about each model and the trait.

  • Leadership Thursday - Students will discuss and learn about leadership qualities that involve each character trait.

  • Assignment Friday - Students will have some type of assessment to show their understanding of the weekly character trait.  Students may plan a school-wide activity, an announcement on the weekly student news or some type of school/community support activity.
